RATEINTEGRATION TEAMS WITH MICROSOFT, LOGAN-ORVIS, AND SWISSCOM TO DELIVER A NEXTGEN DATA AND CONTENT CHARGING PLATFORM AT TMF

London, UK 28 March 2005 –- RateIntegration announced today that it will be working with Microsoft, Logan-Orvis, TelcoPro, and Swisscom in a TeleManagement Forum Catalyst Project for Data and Content Charging at the TeleManagement World Conference in Nice on 15 – 19 May 2005.

This comprehensive TMF Catalyst project is sponsored by Swisscom and will demonstrate a NGOSS-driven architecture supporting multiple business partners in the delivery of a Personal Photo Printing Service (PPPS). The PPPS will allow end customers to electronically transfer photos to a shop. The photos will be printed and delivered and the charges for the service will appear on the customers’ phone bills.

Under the scenario, the Swisscom customer is offered the same user experience whether that customer is prepaid or postpaid. The Charging and Billing infrastructure supporting the service is an overlay onto an existing charging and billing infrastructure and thus demonstrates a migration path to this new level of functionality. Customers are offered a real-time ‘advice-of-charge’ before submitting a print order and are charged (prepaid) or billed (postpaid) by Swisscom according to a variety of product offerings.

The project brings forward a full end-to-end architecture for charging and billing around the type of innovative content and third-party value-added services now moving into the marketplace.

The Team is using the Catalyst design and implementation to explore issues around:

  • Validating and demonstrating a powerful and flexible charging architecture against a real-world scenario
  • Assessing the range of business models that can be accommodated within this framework
  • Assessing the interoperability of RosettaNet and NGOSS standards within the workflows for this scenario,
  • Mapping and assessing currently emerging SID entities relevant to these services, and
  • Tying in the eTOM and PIP processes.

While Swisscom was instrumental in defining the business requirements for the Project, leading vendors are providing a substantial amount of work to develop and integrate the appropriate business support infrastructure, specifically, the participating vendors are responsible for the following areas

  • RateIntegration is providing convergent real-time rating, with flexible rules-based rating for advice-of-charge, postpaid billing, & partner settlement;
  • Microsoft is providing the B2B gateway to manage the order fulfillment interaction between telecom operator and print shop partner, effectively enabling interoperability between NGOSS and RosettaNet standards;
  • Logan-Orvis is providing assistance in evaluating the chosen charging architecture from a business modeling perspective;
  • TelcoPro is providing support for the integration effort between the vendor packages.

RateIntegration’s PriceMaker Rating Engine was developed for real-time charging scenarios and offers an extremely flexible, rules-based platform for content delivery such as that being demonstrated by the Catalyst Project. The proven PriceMaker Engine offers a unique combination of rating flexibility, absolute visibility of the rating rules to business analysts for speed-to-market, and an adjunct architecture designed for easy integration with existing OSS components. As such, PriceMaker provides an unparalleled rating platform for delivering new content services and effectively adapting to the evolving business models in the content space.
