Sergel, a wholly owned subsidiary of TeliaSonera Group (TLSN.ST), is an application service provider (ASP) serving the telecom, news media, energy, real-estate, and government sectors. Sergel delivers customer service, invoicing, accounts receivable, credit scoring, bill-production and collections to service-providers throughout northern Europe.

 

Business Background

Sergel had a unique legacy application for each industry vertical. Each new customer implementation within an industry vertical required a new instance of the software because of the variation and diversity of the service offerings and pricing plans. The communications industry was undergoing rapid changes and Sergel was unable to compete effectively for new customers or support their existing customers in a cost-effective manner. They embarked on a project to rebuild the software infrastructure for the ASP starting with the telecom vertical and decided to select a third-party rules-based pricing server to meet the critical industry requirements.

 

Business Benefits / ROI with ARS 3.0

Sergel selected the RateIntegration ARS 3.0 as their core standardized pricing platform.

  • The integration effort was completed for a total of 12 man-weeks with less than 2 man-days of changes to ASP's software infra-structure
  • Signed over six new customers in the first six months with new architecture following a year-long period with no new customers
  • Implemented the largest MVNO in Scandinavia with highly advanced service offerings and price plans with no custom programming changes to the Pricing Server
  • During parallel testing and millions of events processed, a total of five errors were found by the users that were tracked back to bugs in the prior fully embedded pricing logic.

The ASP Operations group offers a distinct set of service offerings and pricing plans for each customer from a single instance of the server. Further, they offer virtually unlimited new plans and offerings to their customers at no additional charge, which is unprecedented for any ASP in this market. The pricing server has enabled higher processing fees because all enhancements are included.

ARS 3.0 supports all pricing calculations including end-of-month bill calculations and discounts as an available "service" completely decoupled from the customer billing processes. It thus provides a level of flexibility and turn-around in customer pricing plan requests that is unprecedented in that market.
